For a lot of families, a beach vacation is not only much needed, but it’s also a time for the family to get away and make memories together. It also ends up being a time for family photos, as our white sandy beaches and colorful sunsets make for the perfect backdrops. We met with Anna Calhoon Photography, one of our Preferred Partners, to learn more about her business and to ask some questions that might be helpful to families looking to hire a professional!

How did you get started in photography?
I started working with a photography company in 2008 while still attending college. That experience eventually lead to me branching out on my own in 2013 and starting Anna Calhoon Photography.

What sort of photography do you specialize in?
I really enjoy shooting weddings and family portraits the most.

Describe your style.
No matter what I’m shooting, I try to shoot a mix of candids and portraits. Sometimes the best moments are the unplanned ones, that come in between the portraits! I love getting to know my clients so I can try to capture images that hold meaning and are special to them.

Give us a rundown of your family photo session package and what it entails.
My full family sessions are usually about 45 minutes long. We start with getting a few posed family photos by the sand dunes, then head over to the waters edge to get a few individuals of your children, along with any other pairings that fit your family’s need. We will finish the session off playing in the sand or surf getting those fun candid moments. We include all digital images in our packages.

While getting to know Anna, we checked out her website and fell in love with this, straight from her bio on what sets her apart:

A mom herself, she understands the need for fun and engaging photo sessions that capture the essence of your family and keep the kids entertained at the same time. She does not believe in forcing rigid poses, instead her approach to family photography is to capture natural interactions. In addition to offering traditional family photo sessions in Destin & Fort Walton, she also take photos of families with special needs children. With her degree in ESE and working previously with Autistic children she is patient and understands what it takes to get your little one to smile.

No matter if you’re looking for beach photos, greenery or just some fun interactive images of your family, we know Anna will take care of you.
